How's the Lowrance Marine Radio

stick

Question

I recently bought a cabin, and I'd like a "base radio" (so my wife can let me know when dinner is ready...LOL). I am looking at the Lowrance unit (the 850 or something like that...they only offer 1 unit I believe). Does anyone have it and offer any comments? I don't need any of the extra "frills" with so many of the units, so I think this one's price point and standard features should suit me fine.

Thanks in advance for any comments/suggestions.

I think using a marine radio on land - ie. as a "base station" as you say -- is against federal regulations unless you're licensed. I occasionally hear of people getting tagged for this, I think it happened on the east side of Mille Lacs last year. At any rate it's something you should probably look into.
