Trolling motor battery/wiring questions

stmichael

Question

I was wondering what the disadvantages are for placing the trolling motor battery in the back of the boat, for a bow mount trolling motor. Will the power loss be significant, Drain the battery quicker? The reason for doing this is I would like to keep the front end as light as possible, but, I do not want to strain the trolling motor/battery any more than necessary either. As far as charging the battery, I cannot afford an on board charter yet, but, can I use the plug for the trolling motor to charge the battery? (purchase an additional plug, attach leads to charger, and plug in.)

I think that if you use large gauge wires, you should be fine. It is a bit of a pain to run the wires tho'. But if you do not have a bow - up problem, then there is no reason to keep your batteries up front.
