No, what I meant was that after the Giants let him go and he became a free agent, the Twins should of signed him instead of the Sox's. Imagine that trade now, Nathan,Liriano,Bonser and then get back AJ as a Free agent one year later. How do you SPELL Sweet...

I know this thread is getting off topic but where would AJ play? Even if you are of the belief AJ is better than Mauer, then where would he play. I don't believe you would find any team having the #1 overall draft choice back up another player and I don't think anyone, especially the Twins would pay AJ the money he was commanding to be a back up either.

To put it more succinctly...

No way that ever would have happened.

Left Coast,

Glad to see there are a few level headed Twinkie fans out there! I have always thought AJ was one of the biggest "tools" in the shed and he is just like Dennis Rodman of the NBA, a player that you hate as an opponent but love to have on your team (and we have had both on our teams here in Chicago). I think the penalties that will soon be handed out from this melee will prove us right. As for Lots of Luck, I will be up in MN for two weeks pulling walleye out of the lake and right into my vacuum sealer and then the freezer. We have about 20 family members who come up every year and we always limit out and bring those tasty fillets home to the Windy City where we enjoy them year round. But seeing as how this is a "baseball" thread, I thought it best to talk about "baseball"...Call me crazy, but that's how the mind works here in Illinois. I don't know how your's works up in Twinkieville. When I go onto the Sharing Recipies forum I usually talk about cooking fish and when I go to the Cass Lake site I usually talk about fishing on Cass Lake. Now if you would like to talk about your favorite operas or famous Minnesota banjo players on this thread, I guess you could but I will stick with talking about "baseball" and YOU CAN PUT THAT ON THE BOARD, MY FRIEND....YES! I know why all the Twins fans dislike AJ, it's because he got the ring last year and the Twins missed the playoffs without him. AJ brought the Twins the future for the new stadium, with Lariano, Bonser and Nathan what more could you ask for. Remember he got traded he did not leave for free agency, he liked it here. About the post on him making that comment to Dan Cole (common man), that comment was when he was with the Twinks. AJ is the guy you love to hate until he is on your team and then you love him and the way he plays.

I won't speak for all Twins fans, but this Twins fan didn't mind seeing AJ go. Not saying he isn't a good catcher but it was a good trade that Terry Ryan made. I personally feel Terry makes some very good trades and to make a trade you have to give something up. We basicially spent 5 bucks and made 15.

As far as the play is concerned.....I liked it. I didn't watch the game but I saw "The Play" plenty times on Sportscenter. What I saw was 2 pro ballers doing their jobs. A play at the plate is the most exciting play in pro sports. A catchers job is to block the plate. Sure, he can use his leg, but unless your leg is the size of an oak tree the runner will slide right through it. As a catcher, it really doesn't matter how you block the plate but you darn well better be blocking it with something. The runners job is to score. If there is something in your way, move it, knock it down, knock it into the dugout if you have to but you darn well better score. Somethings gotta give. If you don't wanna hit or get hit or are worried about getting hurt, take off the cleats, put on a dress, and get some cushy job selling jewlrey at the mall.

Until the fist-o-cuffs started what I saw was two pro ballers doing their jobs. Nothing more, nothing less.

As an added bonus this was during interleauge play. North side vs south side. Heated rivalry and the fellas had better be playing hard.

More of the same from Windy, Blah, Blah, Blah.... Thanks for more of your baseball elightenment. I would have never understood the game without all of your insight and knowledge. I imagagine you are so entitled now that your squad won the series.

Chisox I am well aware of the origins of AJ's comments. At the same time he managed to drop the "F" bomb on live TV going after someone, instead of celebrating his teams victory as a Twin. He was more concerned, even as a Twin, at showing someone, kind of like Windy.

Is Windy, really A.J.? Hmmm......

Go Cubs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AJ is a good player and I liked him as a Twin because he produced, it didn't mean I had to like him as a player. You just have to ask yourself if you like cheering for "tools" because they play for your team or if your like the Vikings new ownership and you push all the dirty laundry out the door. I can say I've been on both sides of the fence... everybody likes a winner, but you reach a certain point in life when pro sports atletes shenanigans just turn you off and start to make you dislike teams... even if it is your hometown team.

Buzzsaw,

Do you remeber the "Boo-Yah" bit by A.J. when he was a Twinkie, was it a walk off dinger?

Wasn't he showing up the opposing pitcher? Paul Allen and Jeff Dubay brought up that classic A.J. moment just the other day.

yeah, it's just pretty bad sportsmanship in my opinion. If my kids were to act that way while playing sports (showing someone up) I'll tell you it would only happen once. I played sports growing up and you hang around with and compete against alot of the same people.. if you get a reputation as being a dink, it's nearly impossible to shake and who wants to be shunned from others in a game thats supposed to be fun?

Windyskin,

I for one have been an A.J. fan. When he was with the Twins he had a winning attitude and now for the Sox, he has the same.

That being said, A.J. is a wise-arse and I don't think it was wrong for Barrett to have jacked him up a little after that play. I don't fault A.J. for running him over, that part of the play was clean, but smacking the plate like he did was a cocky move and you know it. Also, I'm sure he kept his mouth shut after that too. (Yah right, we know him better than that) He was showing him up and that was obvious. If someone would have done that to A.J., I can guarantee you A.J. would have done the same thing.

This kind of stuff happens all the time on plays like that. If any of you here ever played town ball I'm sure you've seen some of that. This was the North/South rivalry, noone likes each other and A.J. is hated by everyone except his teammates. It was bound to happen.

Willy,

Sure AJ is an instigator and I am sure he smacked the plate to add a little insult to injury. But should everybody who does anything "extra" get sucker punched? I mean, if that's the case then Barry Bonds with his bat toss and stare and stand when he hits a homer can be seen as "extra" emotion. Same goes for Sammy Sosa with his idiotic hop after hitting a homer and his two finger kiss chest thump. Same goes for Carlos Zambrano who points to the sky after striking somebody out to end an inning. Should somebody walk up to them and cold cock them? No, because that is not part of baseball. Barrett just lost it because he had just gotten run over by a run away freight train. He even said that he did not see AJ slap the plate, so there goes that excuse. I'm sure AJ was yappin but if that entitles somebody to sucker punch a guy there would be quite a few bruised jaws in the MLB. I have to say again that for this episode, AJ IS INNOCENT AND BARRETT IS 100% GUILTY AS CHARGED COUNSELOR!

You Can Put It On The Board...YES! Windy
