Reed Lake Gator!!!!!!

Toby

Recommended Posts

Last year I made a trip up to Reed lake in Manitoba with my dad and brother. The weather was horrible, 30 degrees and snowing so we took the advantage of fishing from the shorelines. What we used is called a beer can rig. Where you have a plane hook rigged with a big sucker. You simply cast it out as far as you can and let it sit on the bottom. Big northern are notorious for skimming the shorelines looking for dead fish and this just happened to be doing that. When you start to see the line start reeling off is when you set the hook. My brother caught this pig measuring 46 inches at about nine o clock. You dont have to be in a boat to catch pig northerns, as we were watching the line go sitting next to the campfire.

Sweet pig, Toby !

I remember fishing for northerns like that when I was younger. Lake Okamanpeedan, on the Minnesota / Iowa border, dead smelt on the bottom, as far as you could toss it .

Never one that big though !
