Down to Earth
I just got invited by my father for a week trip up on Lac Seul this coming August 20-26. Unfortunately, I don't know where on the lake we are at as it is not a resort, but a private cabin so I don't have any idea on where to look. Maybe as I get some more specifics I can update what I find out in order to get some better feedback. Any kind of general info on the lake during the listed time frame you can give? Thanks.Andy

Down to Earth
I already told him yes. Not gonna pass up a week of fishing with my dad. I've tried to look some info on the internet by reading what some of the resorts have to say about it. As you said it looks like a good walleye lake. Looks also now like a great northern and muskie lake as well. Hopefully we will be able to get on some fish. As I said, I'm not quite sure where we will be location wise on the lake. I will post more as I find out. How big is this lake? I'm guessing June would be more prime walleye time than August. What kind of size can one expect to be seeing with the walleyes and northern/muskies?Thanks.
SCONASOTAN
Sir you are in for a treat. AUgust is a great time on Lac Seul. I has fished it in June, July and August. Big fish time of the year starting in August. Nightcrawlers on deep humps and wind blown points adjacent to deep water. I would think deep water cranks would be great too. Deep means 25-45 FOW. with that said they can be up in the 15 to 20 FOW range at times too. You can never br guarunteed anything while fishing but many fish in the 25 to 28 inch range can be very realistic and mayeb a good shot at 30+ incher. The northern will probably be deep at that time too and we have caught many 35+ inch northerns while walleye fishing. I don't know about the muskies but I have seen a couple while walleye fishing both attached to the walleye we had on the line. Lac Seul is the greatest lake I have fished on and I look forward to our trips every year.Have a great time and cheerish the moments you get with your parents. I lost both of mine at really young age.
Abrams
Lac Seul is an impoundment, the English river is darned up in the west part of the lake. It's huge, I'm not sure of the exact acreage but I would guess well over 75,000 acres. That might be huge musky time as well.
LeeMB
I would fish 8-14 ft. deep weed beds for the Pike and Muskiethat time of year. "Cabbage" weeds are the best.
CodyDawg
I have been going there for a long time and you will be amazed. It is a HUGE lake. Way, way, WAY bigger than 75,000 acres. Prolly more like 500,000 acres. I think it is about 80 miles east to west. It has a lot of bays and islands and no part of the lake is really a huge expanse of water (like Mille Lacs). In the middle of the lake it is almost completely undeveloped. I dont know about the east and west sections. It is overall, a great experience. Abrams
400,000 acres, I didn't think it was that big. I've only fished the eastern part, Wapisi bay. I normally fish my lake - Abrams. There is millions of acres of water at you disposal in the Abrams, Pelican, Minitaki, Lac Seul, Botsford chain.
maddog2
I believe the lake is 140 miles long . I've been going up there for nine years. July and august. We fish the north end. We've never have had bad luck. If you like catching two to three hundred walleyes a week Its the lake for you. I use pearl sassy shads and cranks. On the north end I've never fished deeper than 20 ft. Have fun with your Dad and cherish the experience.
aftoneyes
Abrams, Its always easy in Wapesi. Do you ever fish the rapids at the end of Wapesi?
Fuzzy
Here are the stats: 560 square miles, 358,290 acres of water and 3,000 miles of shoreline. The Lac Seul waterway is approximately 112 miles long with bays, peninsulas, streams, inlets and hundreds of islands allowing anglers of all types fishing specific to their angling style. As Lac Seul is the second largest inland lake in Ontario.
Abrams
aftoneyes - I fished Wapesi bay when I was 14 (I'm 34 now). The only think I remember was the looooooong boat ride from Abrams.
Fish Head
I've never fished Wapesi Bay, but I plan to this year. I hear you have to be VERY carefull of rocks for fear of loosing your lower unit. Any suggestions?
Abrams
Go slow. . . have a spotter in the front wearing good polorized glasses. Do this until your become familiar with the lay of the land. This really should apply to all the lakes in this area. The last few years this has not be an issue because of high water. Reports are water levels are near "normal" this year. Ice went out on April 19 on Abrams this year, record early.
WB make the CUT
Lac Suel is actually 348,266 acresIts Ontario;s second largest body of water. It measures 75 mile for Ear Falls outlet to near Sioux Lookout. It drains an area of 10,200 square miles including 7500 smaller lakes.Lac Seul is French for lake alone, it was named by a French trapper who was forced to spend an entire winter alone on the lake around 1750, he named it appropriatley.Enough history for the day. Vortex Fishing
aftoneyes, The rapids are pretty to look at, but the fishing is often slow compared to the rest of the lake. I made the trip again last year and at times it was like watching grass grow. I would save your time and gas and not make the trip to the far end of Wapesi.
