TSCTSC
Have a 5 wire trailer. I have turn signals, hazard signals, but no running lights or tail lights. Checked the wires on the trailer and they look good. Could it be my truck?
0 Sgt. Rock
Have you got a tester to see if you have output from the truck?? I'd start there and work backwards.
0 spudhauler
Check the fuses in the truck. My chevy has a fuse box under the hood and I have blown one fuse several times that gave me the same symptoms you are referrring to.
0 efgh
Spudhauler is right, the fuze box under the hood has fuzes for the trailer, one each for R.T., L,T,, Stop, R.L. they are usually the smaller ones. 5-10 amps.
0 Muskieguy
Definitely check the fuses...as new trucks have separate fuses for pretty much each light for the trailer. I had a similar problem that was caused by a bad ground. Make sure all of the contacts are free of any corrosion and make sure they are TIGHT! My bad ground was the ground way back by the tail light itself. Might have to remove the red cover to see the ground. Once that is done, then it could be a bulb. In many rear trailer lights there are 2 bulbs on each side. The smaller of the 2 bulbs is the running light bulb. The bigger bulb which contains 2 filaments is your brakes, turns, hazards etc.Good luck...
0 Northlander
I just went threw this. Start at the fuses then work your way back from the truck. Mine was the adapter plug under the rear truck frame. Ford F150. Once I found that was bad it was a quick fix.
0 Wiskers
I found a common trouble is the ground wire on the trailer needs to be very good also.
0 TSCTSC
I found a blown 15 amp fuse under the hood of the truck. Replaced it and checked the adaptor. Appeared to be not working. I replaced it and checked again and it was working. Came back from the lake and on the way home, it blew again. I think it must be something on the trailer. How do I find it? Probably a short or bad ground wire. Just for this weekend, before going to the dealer next week, can I put in a 15AMP miniATO style circuit breaker instead??
