More record fish?

I just started thinking about this lately. Over the years there has been an obvious increase in the poplarity of bass fishing, an increase in practicing C&R, increase in gov. regulations(that positively effect bass), better tackle/equipment, smarter anglers, etc. Taking all of these factors into account, do you think we will start to see more record bass being caught in the near future? Maybe even this season?

I do not think we are going to see an explosion of bass records. People are still taking nice bass out to put on the wall before they get to record size. In the past few years I've seen a decrease in the size of St. Louis River bass. It's now hard to get one over 20", 6 years ago they were real common. The reason: Once the secret got out too many big fish were yanked out. I think this happens everywhere. If you want to see records continue to push for CPR and graphite reproductions instead of skin mounts! laugh.gif

I'm with MH on this one, but for different reasons. Most fish I do not think have the genetics to reach record size. And even though we are so much better with catch and release, you still have a problem with delayed mortality. I also think that with catch and release now days, that we have seen a larger average size, however, when you see a larger number of bass get larger together you then deplete that food sorce and it stops them from reaching thier full potential.

Thats my idea at least, no scientific stuff to back it up.

I know that temp has a LOT to do with it.. and don't forget climate change.. with growing season getting longer every year.. no doubt the overall average water temps are climbing... and that's going to help.
