TC123
I'm looking at buying my first boat and would like some information from anybody that has one or has been in one. It is a 1992 alumacraft 185 competitor cs with a 115 evinrude.Any help/info would be appreciated (likes/dislikes, etc).
0 Ralph Wiggum
Don't have the exact boat, but we've got a 1993 (I think) 170 Competitor, and I imagine it's quite similar. It's got a 2003 115 Johnson on it. There are some things I don't like about it. #1, there's basically no rod storage. #2, I wish there was an elevated platform to fish off of in the rear. #3, the livewell is pretty narrow (but it is pretty long).Like I said, some of these things may be addressed in the 185, I'm not sure. Otherwise, it handles pretty well and scoots well with a 115 on it. It does double-duty pulling skiiers, tubers, and wakeboarders and handles that pretty well. And it's tough. It has been worked pretty hard with no problems.
0 TC123
thanks for the info! I was told this boat will do 35 on the GPS. Is that about what you would expect? I was hoping for closer to 40, but I suppose it's an old motor that might be a little tired (motor is a '92 also). the 185 has a 7' lockable rod storage compartment on the side of the boat... 0 Ralph Wiggum
That rod locker would be nice! I don't have a GPS, but the speedo on ours puts it at about 42-43 when all trimmed out, so 35 might be about right on a little bigger boat.
