JohnMickish
Here is why we have buschwakers. At 'Dega for the Busch race there where only 43 cars entered to race and 17 of them are Cup drivers. As Mikey says "do the math".There has also been all this talk about how to get them out by changing cars or tires or whatever so that isn't the advantage to run both series. I think they already have a series like that that nobody watches, it's called ARCA. (hoosier tires)I believe if they take the cup drivers out it's really going to hurt the tv ratings and if you take the cup teams out they will have a series full of people that nobody knows about full of drivers that knowbody cares about. That series is called ASA.
eyepatrol
I hear what you're saying, and I'm a little on the fence with this one the more I think of it. I still believe the Bush series should be the minor league series so to speak. However dollars are important and the cup guys help with the cashflow. I also wonder if allowing cup guys who are 30th or 35th in cup points or worse to race in Bush would help, but then when I think about that, why are more people attending the Bush race? My own opinion, it's because the better, higher up in points guys are driving in the Bush series and the guys 30th or 35th in points don't have the fan base these guys have. Guess what I'm trying to say is guys 30th or 35th in points or worse are mostly those guys who are not so "popular" with the fans....the worse (or worse off) drivers. Sending them to the Bush series I don't think would help the popularity as much. Who wants to go to a Bush race to see Dave Blaney, or Scott Wimmer or Stanton Barrett? Now, don't get me wrong, if I were to ever have a chance to attend a race, I'd be watching everything from practice, to qualifying, Craftman race, Bush race and Cup race (if all 3 were going)...I'd hit it all, but if we're talking about those fans that only care to see their driver, these guys won't add all that much to the series IMO. It's a hard call for my own opinion....it's nice that these guys help the series out and make it better, but I also look at it from a professional/minor league standpoint. Baseball players, football, hockey and basketball players don't play in the minor leagues just to play or use it as a warm-up or make more money. But then again, I don't think you can compare NASCAR to these sports either...it's a whole different animal. I'm like LMITOUT's quote...."I used to be indecisive...but now I'm not so sure". harvey lee
Mnfishingguy You hit the nail on the head.Busch series without the cup drivers would make a very dull race. The regular drivers in Busch are there to prepare for the big leaques(cup). Its a great way for the younger guys to see if they have the skill to race with the best. VMS
I would rather they limit the number of cup drivers in Busch series. In years past, I have LOVED watching the busch race because the up-and-comers were actually AT THE TRACK RACING, rather than parking their car and going home.We are seeing more Cup drivers come in for TESTING PURPOSES for the big race. Since NASCAR limited the number of tests, the busch series is their alternative that side-steps the rule. So...the big teams still get their advantage by putting more drivers in the busch series to race.Honestly, I hate it. Having a 3 - 4 drivers from cup out there does not bother me, but if they are out there, let them fill the spots at the end to get the full field of 43. If they win, let them take the win, but no points awarded. The racing is good when it is almost all busch teams. More mistakes might be made and accidents are more probable, but that is what made that series fun to watch...similar to truck racing.Steve
JohnMickish
How fun would it be to watch 20 cars on the track with only 5 having a realist chance of winning? Take a look at the number of Busch regulars that start a race and finish a lap down to the lead regular. It's not very many. Plate races excluded. JohnMickish
To put it a different way, if you where a sponsor and paying 8 million a year to finish 25th in a series that gets watched by (I'm just pulling numbers out of the air) say, 25 million poeple on tv would you spend the same to sponsor a car to run 5th in a series that gets watched by half the number of people? I believe that is the number one stumbling block on keeping the cup drivers out. Here is my point, without looking how many of you know who drives the 00, 25 and 36 cars? All three have made all 9 races. Now tell me how many of you can name the drivers of the 60, 06, 20 and the 99?
VMS
When half the field is made up of cup drivers, it's a no brainer that many busch drivers end up a lap down. They cannot compete at the same level. I think it is exteremely unfair to the busch drivers. Also, the reason nobody knows the smaller series racers is because the sport has gotten so popular in an extremely short amount of time. Then, take into account that a so many of these new viewers no nothing about the backgrounds of their favorite drivers. They would find that many of the drivers out there were in those smaller series. These new watchers have no clue how some of the drivers out there had to cut their teeth.
