How many lbs. less fish for you in the next week?

So instead of counting how many pounds of fish they eat can we do something?? Are there any organizations addressing this? I'd like to know so I can support them. Maybe we need to teach the birds CPR!! wink.gif We need to teach CPR to fishermen also.

Leech Lake has had the same problem for the last who knows how many years. recently, a solution was approved, issue permits to people to go out in their boats and pick them off with a small caliber rifle. fun and effective.

Cass county CO may have info on organizations about this.

i fish D.L. a couple times a year so you'll have my support too.

Good luck

This bird is being condemned for doing what it does, eat to survive. That is the sad part that animals have to be put to control just so that people can enjoy their fishing. They are just doing what nature intended them to do.

This is a neutral area for me. Although I like to have proper control and conservancy of our lakes & streams, somehow taking out these birds don't feel right in my book. They aren't big enough of a problem on a global scale to pose a threat. The fishery on Devils Lake, ND is excellent despite any claims about these birds on the lake.

I say just leave them be for now...

I am not sure of the population on the lake is now but they can be a huge problem if the population is high. About 7 years ago we were fishing some timber, casting cranks in the trees. We witnessed a bird fly into a tree right by us. It started to choke and proceeded to choke up 4 1+lb. perch. We electric motored over to see the perch laying on the top of the water dead. That leaves a lasting memory! Lets see how many birds on the lake and how many 1+lb. perch being ate each day????? Just my .02!

I see and understand where your getting at. But the thing is Devils Lake is nothing short of an excellent Walleye & Perch fishery. So the birds are not enough of a problem that they need to be dealt with to improve the fish population.

Just get out there and enjoy the great fishing and forget about the birds for now...

True but so was leech lake before these birds came around. It is amazing how many of these things there are around. Wish they would allow some kind of management of these things.

Just get out there and enjoy the great fishing and forget about the birds for now...

True but leech lake was a great fishery before these birds came around too. Not that it isn't still a good lake but not as good as it used to be. I think there needs to be some type of management of these birds they are all over the place.
