'eyesmaster89
I was wondering if cast nets or umbrella nets are legal in Minnesota. I know that sein nets are as long as they meet cartain requirements. There are times when a cast net would be nice and it just seems like it would be fun. 'eyesmaster89
Thanks for the info. Do you know if umbrella nets are legal, I have seen them in local stores?
ironman
I wonder why they're illegal. What's the difference...more efficient maybe? Weird...I always wondered why you couldn't buy them anywhere up here. I was on the Croix years ago in the fall when there where thousands of shad right close to shore and all I could think of was if I had a casting net I could get some premier walleye bait right now. However, casting a white spinnerbait to shore yeilded many nice smallies that day..so maybe I didn't need them anyway.
DARK30
I don't know why they are illegal either. I think if you can learn how to work one good, you should be able to! I do plenty well with my seine tho.
jerkin'm
I called the DNR on this last year...The reasoning is that they don't want the walleye fry to be caught in the nets. Apparently the walleye fry hang out on the surface and would be more prone to being caught in a cast net...
