New Style Crestliner Seat Problems

TUMBLEWEED

Question

Anybody else having problems with these
things?? The plastic peices that keep
the seat from swiveling continue to
break. Ran into another issue this last
weekend, where one seat's back started to buckle!! The design has the backrest
being supported by the hard plastic
on the back of seat's bottom. Well, if you
are out in the full sun, that plastic gets
warm and less rigid. After that, the
backrest can bend the plastic down and
cease to be a back rest!! For me, this
time it was only a nuisance issue, but
it could also become a safety problem.

I intend to let someone at the Crestliner
factory know.

I haven't had a problem with the seat back melting but I have broken three of the plastic pieces that keep the seat from spinning.
I spoke to my dealer and stood there while he called the Crestliner rep. The dealer hopes the recall the platic clips and replace them with something more durable.

I talked with Crestliner's quality department
about both issues. They are receiving LOTS
of complaints on the broken plastic pieces
(they are called "spiders"). They are in
the process of working with the supplier
of those defective parts, to achieve a
solution.

On the backrest problem, this was the
first time that they had heard of such
a problem. I would still encourage any
one who has the new style seats to check
the grey plastic portion of the seat that
supports the backrest. The plastic should
not be able to be pressed in at all. If
it does, it has been comprimised. Return
it to you dealer for replacement.

Well I called Crestliner. Since we have a 01 model the 3+ Warranty is done. However, they are going to check and see what they can do. Ill post once I hear back from them regarding this issue.

I did find out that on my year, they are experiencing a problem with the plastic mechanism sticking. Not sure how that differs from what Tumble was seeing on his?

Well lone and behold I am not the only one.

Got a 01 Fishhawk, and on my back seat, that little POS plastic thing broke.(Do you like my technical terms for that thing)?

Looks like I will make a phone call and see what they are going to do about it.

Thanks,

Travis

On my 1750 Fishhawk it is very difficult to move the seats. Boat is three weeks old. The seats are comfortable enough, but I knew right away the locking and swivel mechanisms were going to be trouble. I am also having a $#%&@# of a time getting the seats out of one base to move them to another!!
Love the boat and the 115 Yama though.Great package!!

Ufatz,
I had the same problem. I found if you lock the seat (swivel) and then press the botton and twist the seat, they come out pretty slick. Hope that helps, cuz I also had @*$!&^ of a time...

I've had trouble with the shaft sticking into the base on my Fishhawk also. A little bit of graphite lubricant on the base made a big difference. Now the seats pop out easily. Just a thought.

ufatz-
i dread having to move the seats too. total p.i.t.a.! rockin, twisting, swearing, etc.........................................
also, all the clips are broken of mine too- 2001 superhawk. i almost prefer it that way now though. i can spin freely, which works well for me.

another thing- last year heading down the big water on rainy, decent sized waves, my buddy in the passenger seat (about 270 lbs.) was riding along and suddenly the entire round bottom plate broke through the floor and he landed on his ***. that was just more funny than anything, not really a crestliner issue. but it was in-line with all the other irritating componentry malfuntions i've dealt with.
