salting minnows?

Recommended Posts

I've salted shinners to take into Ontario for laker fishing. I drain the minnows and then salt them down with a mixture of about 50/50 salt and borax. The borax keeps them from getting mushy. Then pack them in small ziplocs (so you can take out one at a time for fishing). Put them in the freezer and your ready to go.

Not sure how much you need but the small packs of salted ones I got were cheap in comparison to messing with salting my own. They lasted a long time as well. A nice 6 pack for 2 bucks and they were good sized minnows. Yellow zip type bag but forgot the name.
