HELP: POWEDRIVE STUCK ON FULL SPEED

Bushwacker

Question

Does anybody have any experience with a Minn Kota Powerdrive that is stuck on full speed. It started when I was using the Co-Pilot remote and it only goes wide open. Then I tried the foot pedal and got the same results. During an entire day of fishing there was one ten minute period where the speed control worked. Any suggestions that don't involve me bringing my motor in to a service center for a couple of weeks right during the prime fishing time.
Thanks for any tips,
Marty

Yup your board is shot, you need a new one, I just did this a couple weeks ago, I bought the board from minnkota directly (in person) and installed it in something like 20 minutes because I was kind of screwing around and taking pics. Easy, easy job, take like 6 screws out, unplug the wires, plug them back in the new one, reinstall screws, super easy. I think the board goes for around $65 or so, but if you're really nice, you might be able to do much better, I did, and minnkota's got a customer for life.

MNRSTRIDER,
Thanks for the advice. I just received an email from Minn Kota saying the same thing about the board. Where are they located. I am not the most handy, but my Dad is so I think we could figure through the switch. I have always had good products from Minn Kota, but this motor is only 2 years old.

You might want to check with someone that does repairs on these. I had the board replaced in mine earlier this summer and found out the motor was still under warranty (it was also 2 years old and I purchased it used). That's a great surprise to have when you go into a situation expecting to pay $50-$100 and you find out it's free. Free is a great thing.

If you can bait your own hook you can do this... seriously.
I just took the drive down there, the guy there took care of me and my unit is only a little more than 2 years old too. He even gave me wiring diagrams with the parts. You might even be able to accomplish similar good results with part if you called and talked very nice to someone, but I don't know for sure. For me it wasn't so much a money issue as it was a time issue, and I wanted mine fixed for that weekend, that's 99% of the reason I drove down there. Worse case senerio I believe that par tis cheaper than $78, but it might be about the same after burnt gas too.
