Lund 1675 Explorer

I'm looking at a 2002 Lund 1675 w/ a 60hp and am wondering if it's big enough to feel safe on a windy day (or night) on millelacs/winnie/red or other big water. I like the fact that it's small enough to get into smaller lakes & rivers where I mostly fish and I don't mind rough seas I just don't wanna be stuck on the dock when the big boys are still out. Any input from any explorer owners on how they handle on rough days? thanks

On 90% of the windy days the 1675 will do Mille Lacs. You just can't have enough beam and depth in the boat on Mille Lacs. Once the wind gets over 30 mps Mille Lacs gets real ugly and you won't want to be out there in it. You will get tossed about and find long crossings difficult because it is a smaller boat. But then, loading and unloading at the ramps will be a little easier because of the smaller size and the shallow ramps.

I think it's a little on the small side for big water, but that doesn't mean you can't make it work.

I did Winnie when I had a 50 hp 16' Alumacraft and went all the way across in 35 mph wind and it was tough and was I glad to get off the lake! I've done Mille Lacs several times in my 175 Smokercraft with a 115 merc and feel completly safe. I think the 1675 is a little on the small side for big water, but that doesn't mean you can't make it work.

A 16 1/2 foot boat with a 90" beam will do just fine on Mile Lacs/Red/Winnie. That is a good boat for all around use like you intend to do.

I had a 2001 1675 and I tried it on Mille Lacs a few times but after a couple of windy days I decided it WAS NOT A BIG WATER BOAT FOR ME. Over all I was very happy with the boat on 90% of the water I put it on but after a few times of water over the bow on big water I decided to stay off with my boat(Winne, Leech,Mille Lacs). I will tell you that the wide beam provides for superb stability. Over all the Explorer is a very nice boat. I second the comment that it may be a bit small for the big water and a deeper "V" model may be a better choice if you fish big water A lot. I actually sold mine here on FM to fellow FM'er.
