walleye food

A friend of mine is asking me what to feed his walleyes. The DNR put some fingerlings in his pond for letting them access a private lake to rear walleyes in. So my bud is worried there is no food in his small pond since he just dug it about 3 years ago. I told him just to buy a few scoops of crappie minnows and throw them in - what do you all think he should feed them?

Walleye are piscivores (fish-eaters) and will eat any species of fish they can catch and swallow. Yellow perch and many species of minnows and darters are their most common food. Larval and young juvenile walleye consume copepods, waterfleas, and small insect larvae, but quickly add larval fish to their diets.
