Morel Hunting

I have no idea what that mushroom is, granted I am new to morel hunting. But i went out today for about 2 hours and got a pound and a half. I think that i am hooked on morel hunting now!

Yep - false morel. A old saying goes "if it's not hollow, don't swallow!". Goes for the stem and mushroom itself.

Good decision jonny! Anybody have any opinions about this upcoming weekend for hunting morels? The rain should obviously help but the temps are staying down - Is the rain enough to get them popping or is the temp more critical?

Rain will help, but I'm going to check this weekend reguardless. A little more humidity overnight also helps.

I would say that you need both.The next few days with the rain moving in will help alot.Now,if we can get a few days that are warmer with some warm nights to go with it,you will be knee deep in morels.

Watch where you step and look out for the ticks.

Success!! I found 19 gray's yesterday! Man, they are alot harder to spot than the larger yellows. Oh well, season is on so pray for sun now!
