X-75 acting up..

Rost

Question

I'm Stumped..

My X-75 on the bow is showing two bottoms. Example: If I am in 5 ft of water, it will show the bottom about 1/2 way down on the screen, and another bottom down below..

I've tried both manual and auto, but it doesn't seem to matter. Also, this is set up with the Minnkota Universal Sonar (in case that matters)..

Any ideas?

What depth do you have the sounder set at. Could just be a double echo. So say your in 5' of water and the sounders set at 20', with the gain set high enough you'll get a reading at 5' and at 10'. Thats normal.

Manually adjust the depth of your sounder closer to what depth you in.

Sure.. it all depends on where your gain is set... which is a manual setting in manual mode.

However, I seem to recall reading something in Bass & Walleye Boats that they recommend adjusting your gain until you see 2 returns... that it improved your ability to detect the thermocline as well as fish that were hugging the bottom...

Marine Man is right. You want to have the sensitivity turned up so you see a double echo. The range needs to be set more than twice the depth. This ensures the unit will detect fish the best it can. Of course if you get clutter before seeing the second echo you need to stop there and back off a little. You can then change the range if you don't want to see the double echo.
