A word of caution on extending your fuel line, I did the same extending mine to the bow to get some weight in the front for easier planeing when alone, 16' lund 35 merc tiller. In doing so I blew sevral diaphrams in the fuel pump, cheap enough to repair but a real pain getting stranded out on the lake, I ended up getting another prop, going from 13 pitch to 11, moving the tank to the back again and that took care of my slow to plane and pump probs.

That leaves me wondering.

Could the increased restriction caused the longer gas line damage or stretched the diaphragms in the fuel pump. I guess its possible.

Being a suction line, I wonder if the walls of the gas line could have collapsed and that might have been your problem.

I also mved my tank to the bow to keep it down when alone. I put it in the front of a 14' Lund and never had a problem in the three years of use. Maybe the wrong type of hose was used if you had trouble.I got a marine grade and thought I might have trouble with priming, but it worked out great.

SurfaceTension is right,

Look and make sure that the line you were using isn't caving in due to the pull towards the motor. I had a problem with that a few years back up in Ely. If the line is closing off or compressing, you will be able to start the motor run the motor at a trolling speed but when you try to open it up it will fall flat off and want to kill. Let up and idle and you will be fine. I learned the hard way but it is a lesson that might help someone else out in the future. Never had a problem with the diaphrams. That boat was a 16' Fischer with a 35 Johnson tiller. That being said, you can move the fuel tank up front but be sure to buy a fuel line that is made to handle the suction pressure of the motore you are using. Napa or most other automotive stores will supply you with the right kind of line.
