Jiffy auger

JRP

Question

I bought a Jiffy Stealth STX 2 HP 9 " auger back in January. It's tough for me to get started, requiring 10-20 pulls or more, when it does start it dies after a few seconds and It starts and dies 5 times before it will stay running. I'll let it sit and warm up while i'm putting up my shelter and it will usually die a couple times. When I drill a hole it gets bogged down every couple seconds stopping the auger from turning completly.

I've had it worked on a couple times and it does start a little easier after they changed the spark plug and adjusted the carb., but it's still tough for me.

What do you guys think?

I'm seriously considering leaving it alone and buying a new auger this summer.

What kind would you recommend if I did buy a new one?

Thanks

Are you remembering to open the vent screw on the gas cap? This has happened to a buddy of mine. He bought a brand new auger and the symptoms sound the same as yours. After he opened the vent screw on the gas cap the auger ran awesome!!

Did you buy your auger new? If that does't solve the problem maybe you should bring it back.

I've run a eskimo auger for 14 years now, Love it!! Still on the original spark plugs!!!

I dont know what your augers problem is but the 3hp 10 jiffy I have had for the last four years runs great.Almost alway I choke it,pull once and let run for 30 seconds and I will cut a hole I believe as fast as anybody. The only draw back to this auger is the weight. Its a heavy beast.

I had a friend that had problems just like you and he took it back to a dealer and jiffy put a new carb on it and it ran great after that. Before they put the new carb on,you were lucky if you even got it started. frown.gif

Also,Welcome to Fishing MN.I see this is your first post.

I've got an older jiffy, probably 10-15 years old. still runs like a top, on the original blade and on the second spark plug. I can drill holes as fast or faster than almost anyone out there. just make sure it's taken care of and it'll last a lifetime, or almost!!! if you bought your's new, it's possible you got a lemon. Jiffy is pretty good about customer service, I'd get ahold of them.

Deffinatly what Surface Tension said.. this should be still under warrenty. My final thought would be to tell you that this is a Tecumse problem, if its an engine problem, not really a Jiffy problem. Both Jiffy and Strikemaster use the same engines.
