Every lake around here is wide open. Madison, Herman, Thompson, Poinsett, 81 ponds, etc...

So far I have fished Madison three times in the boat W/O much success. Mike and I went out last night and the water temps were right at 43 degrees. Seems like 50 degrees was the magical number in years past. A few guys have been picking a few eyes up after dark off shore with crappie rigs though. At least that is what I hear.

Not sure about the lakes up north. I'd bet they're open as well.

hey Rost, thats a dandy of a rough fish!! Nice catch! Anyhows Peican is pretty much completely open just the rubbage thats washed up on shore that hasnt melted yet, I tried it in the waders saturday night with out a bite, it sure felt good to get the long poles out agin though. I have also heard that kampeska is close to being all open but havent checked it out myself. As far as farther north i heard that over the weekend most were still ice covered but gettin very black and rotten. I go to webster on Saturday to get the boat out of storage and am going to check things out then. Hopefully get the boat wet by Sunday afternoon. Gonna go try the archery turkey thing Sunday morning by the sounds of it, I'll let ya know how everything goes.

Rost,

Thanks for the post.

Your little piggy is trophy class.

A group from Watertown came through the airport this morning and they said Kampeska was 50% ice free at 10:00 am this morning.

Incredible.

I boated on that went 17lbs and it took an honest 15 minutes to boat. I was even using heavier gear.

BTY, that's a decent picture with the background, sunset and all. I like, I like!

Love the forearm burn!

Wader fished thompson last night. I caught one northern and never saw anyone else catch a fish, threw jigs and plugs. I thought the water was pretty dirty from what it should be about now, hard to say if it made a difference but might have. The couple guys I have heard from were getting one or two a night before the rain. If we keep the warm weather it shouldnt be more than a few days before things really get kickin.

It is still a little bit early for the excellent spring bite but they can be had but you have to work for them.

In the Last week I have fished Lake Thompson, Madison and Poinsett. Water temps ranged from 42-46 degrees. If I had to pick the lake of the week it would have to be Poinsett. We we fishing last night and cought a couple and missed a few other bites.

Rost forgot to mention the White suckers, bigmouth buffalo and my giant 16" walleye we caught.

Decided to try the waders tonight...caught a couple nice keepers, a couple got off before I could grab them, and missed my fair share of bites...I'm still a little snow goose trigger happy I guess...

[Note from admin: sorry Andy, no stringer pics]

Made it to Clearlake, Friday, for a couple of hours. The ice went off the previous Friday.

Windy and chilly on the fingers. Tossed spoons and a couple of plugs. Results: 3 carp and one buffalo. I lost a nort about four pounds next to shore.

It was great to be out.

Will post on Saturday when I return from Kampeska. Leaving in five hours. Fridays weather sounds good.

Plan to get fish'n early Saturday to beat the wind and storms.

Lot of shore fishers at Antelope and Bitter.

Shorts and no shirt on Friday and ice fishing gear, today.

We managed a couple of limits on Friday, also, had three releases with largest 21''

Tough this morning in the wind. I really thought they would go with the overcast and the "heavy chop".

I did mangage four but no help from my partner.

Many of the fish were males and still squirting milk in the boat.

You had to be jigging. Small jigs (1/8) and crappie minnows.

Heard Bitter was terrible on Friday.

Some of you other dudes can put up some reports, too.
