Vexilar FL-10 in-dash vs Lowrance X-67 C w/flasher mode

dadshamp

Question

Hey guys. Im looking to replace my Humminbird in-dash flasher with the Vexilar FL-10 in-dash flasher. Does anyone have any experience with them? I also have a Lowrance X-67C with flasher mode. I'm wondering if they work about the same or does the Vexilar have benefits over the X67 that would justify the upgrade.

Thanks in advance.

Jim

I would not be without my fl-10, even though when I slow down and concentrate on my fishing my eyes are on my lowrance 102. On the go you can not beat the real time reaction to a flasher, I cut my teeth on electronics going back to the green box and still like flasher units, not many around, but the fl-10 is a good one.

I guess my question is, how does the FL series differ than the flasher mode feature on my X-67C? I can switch from graph to flasher mode with a couple of pushes of the buttons but is the info as reliable??

I have to admit, Im a bit of a rookie at reading the graph OR the flasher. Would love to hook up with someone some time to give a crash course. Either that or Google a Sonars for Idiots book...lol

Lowrance has some cool demos of their products. You can find the one for the X67C here......

Doesnt seem to be too many folks with opinions or info confused.gif If someone wanted to check the emulator/demo out and give me some input, that would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't run graphs in flasher mode. I have had flashers on my boats in the past but lately I just go with graphs.

If you want some reading material on how to read graphs, try to find stuff the walleye pros have written - that usually seems the best. Try a google search on Bruce 'Doc' Sampson, he has a lot of info out there although lately a lot of it has been REALLY advanced mapping stuff.

For flashers, there's some good info on the Vexilar HSOforum.

The flasher seems to work fine on my X67c but I have not used it in open water. I prefer it in graph mode and I feel that I can get all the info I need from that. But, if you really want to use the flasher mode in your boat, I wouldn't see a problem. Do you have the graph already? If so, it wouldn't hurt to try it out. If you don't like it, you could always buy the flasher.

As you said you can switch from graph to flasher mode quickly with your X-67. My advice would be give both a try and see which YOU prefer. What your looking for is reading depth and bottom content while running, both modes will do that for you. One plus is in graph mode will show you history, I like that but some folks don't. Personally I don't use a flasher on open water, thats my preference. Use the emulator and get familiar with the basic functions, then go onto the advanced settings, that way you'll be getting the most out of your electronics.
