SJB
In Montana, by Red Lodge. There are 2-3 campgrounds 10 miles or so west of town, on the HY that takes you into WY. They are very nice right at the bottom of the mtn's. I
cold one sd
There is camping in the Badlands and the hills are full of campgrounds. The hills has about any kind of campground that you could ever want. You can go from barebones camping to having cable tv in your tent.
FISHINGFARMER
Camped many years in the Black Hills area. Use to be able to primitive camp any where you wanted along side roads as long as your off far enough, no open camp fires. To have fires in only fire pits at campgrounds. If you want to cook use only a propane stove to do so. We stayed around a town called Rochford, they at the time had a small store for supplies and gas for the 4 wheelers. This location is out far enough in the hills that the campgrounds where never very busy and gave you the feeling of remote camping but yet you had a fire pit, table to eat on and was located by some of the best brooke trout streams the Black Hills have to offer. Hope this helps. Also get yourself a forest service map of the Black Hills area, it shows everything including old logging roads to remote areas few have ever seen.
