Morson report 3/10-13

Recommended Posts

Finally we hit some hot trout action on the big WB! There were 4 of us fishing about 8 hours total between Saturday morning and Monday morning and we landed 12 trout with the biggest being 31" and 32". I know they get bigger than that, but in 7 years of fishing Crow I've never seen one over 30". These were by far the nicest average size I've seen as well. Walleye count was as follows: 25 on Friday, 12 on Saturday and 45 on Sunday with the biggest being 18.5", 20", 21" and 22". No whoppers for the camera, but nice chunky fish. With walleye action like that, who needs crappies? I have good trout pics but I don't know how to get them on the forum. Special thanks to Ken at Pelican Landing for helping us dial in on the trout and walleye, it was an absolute BLAST!

MMulcher or Pelican....How much longer will the walleyes keep biting before they head off to spawn?

Where did you guys find them. I'm heading up Thursday for a few days and was going to focus on crappies but if the eyes are still on, why not?!

Anyone catching many crappies at Hay Island yet?

Sure would love a good report.

Thansk for any help.

I think the walleyes will be biting as long as the ice is good enough to get out there. We did good for numbers on Arrow but I've never seen one over 18". I think Little Traverse Bay is your best bet for size and numbers. We fished the Pony Island area all day last Sunday and caught about 45 fish anywhere from 6" to 22". They weren't being suicidal, just slow and steady all day. It seems like the areas closer to town are producing, but not with that kind of size. Anyone can shoot me an email if you want more info on the Pony Island area, it's been worth the extra drive for us. [email protected]

Thanks, muclher! When I asked where, I meant more depth and structure than a favorite spot, but thanks! I heard Pony was producing at the end of Feburary when we were up there, but it's too long a haul for me! I can rarely get away from the cabin that long...

I was jsut wondering if they are deep or shallow. Three weeks ago, they were both, depending on where we tried -- sometimes 18 feet off the reefs, sometime 10 feet on top.

Still waiting for a crappie report, come on, someone must know!!!

All the good walleye action came in about 21' from the top of the ice. (19' on the vex screen). Like you said, that was exactly where they were hitting a month ago when I first heard a report coming out of the Pony Island area. My dad just left this morning to go up for a few days, so we'll see if that pattern holds up. We'll be up next weekend as well and one of our crew will be doing a magazine article on snowmobiling and ice fishing LOTW that will run in Snowmobile magazine next winter.
