Is this too good to be true?

Check the fine print. Those camera kits should also come with a battery and charger, because digital eats batteries. Some retailers sell kits without them to bring the price down and lure the uninitiated. If the kit also contains the battery and charger, that is a very good price. If you want to do some shooting of nature or sports, you'll also need a decent telephoto zoom, but there are plenty of them out there for $150 to $500. But that can wait until you get used to whatever camera you buy. Better to go slowly and make sure it's what you want to get into before shelling out for more and more equipment.

A friend bought the same d50 and lens on hsolist. It was refurbished and he knew that going in. No battery or charger. He's satisfied with the camera but the lens not so much. I wonder once he upgrades the lens and bought the battery and charger, how close he would of come to being able to buy new and not refurbished? Food for thought. Always read the fine print.
