Shore &/or Float Tube Musky Fishing

Recommended Posts

I bought my first dedicated musky rod this winter for a trip up north in September. But, I really want that rod to get in some work before the trip. Problem is that I have no boat and am limited to shore, float tube & wade fishing until I can convince my wife that a boat is a good purchase smile.gif Anyway, could anyone help me out on good pointers, spots and general advice on fishing for musky and big pike from the shore?

Close to you there is Jervais, that holds some muskies. Owasso also has some big pike and 'skis, I've heard that pike can be caught right from the beach area.

St Croix river would be a good option. Like most rivers, it's underfished for these species. The Afton state park has some nice stretches of shore that would be ideal to fish from.

Hope that helps.

i got my start wading in the waters of harriet, calhoun and nakomis. key is to get around the milfoil (want to reach the outside milfoil edge.) . plenty of areas that are not as choked as other spots (i.e. beaches and steep drops close to shore.)

Phalen has Tigers in it I think(?)Not sure how big they are. Lots of Good shore fishing areas in Phalen. Try where the run off enters the lake on the North east end.

White Bear would be a decent lake to float tube on. Just do it early in the morn on a weekday so you don't get run over!!! Gets a little crazy out there at times.

Thanks all, I have had some luck on Phalen with some smaller pike. They were in & around the out(in)let on the southeast side. Nothing too big but you know, nothing like some ESOX action, big or small. I've got the bug REALLY bad this year. I think this warm winter kind of did it. Anyway. CJAC, do you know of any sites on the St. Croix (MN or WI side) around Stillwater? I'll have to check out Afton, I've never been down that way. Thanks guys for the info.
