best underwater camera?

I've finally decided to jump into the underwater camera parade but I don't have a clue which one to get. I would like have the colored LCD screen and remote control. I know Marcum seems to be a favorite on this site but I didn't see a colored screen when I visited their site.

Is there anything wrong with the Guide Gear models sold at Sportsmen's Warehouse? What do the masses recommend?

The color screen is nice, but it is a lcd screen so you have to look at it straight on. two people cant look at it at the same time, like putting it between two people while ice fishing and looking at a slight angle. but you can see it in daylight without a sunscreen.

the control you have with the marcum is the best, there ovs560 has the best options out there but I dont think it is as heavy duty to withstand impacts as others.

I have the ovs560 and love it !!!

But I only really icefish. There are so many out there now that are good for so many different uses that I can only say that you need to look at what you want to use it for and what then you think you need. the one thing I can say to all of you is, if you really want one go out and buy a cheap model $99 to $150 and come up with your own likes and dislikes and you will then know what it is you could like.

Marcum 560 is OK. I owned one for a season before the Marcum 500, which is OK as well.

I now own a aqua view 7 inch screen SRT model with spectral response lighting.

Both units night lighting work absolutely equal

I like the bigger screen over the marcum. You wouldn't think 2 inches would make that huge a difference but it did for me.

I like being able to angle the screen to view easier, by flipping the carrying handle under the monitor.

I like the clarity of the picture a lot better than the marcum

I like the optional mo-pop as the remote works about 100 times better than marcum. Marcums remote is really bad. Need to be exactly in front of camera and no more than about 3or 4 feet away.

I did really like the direction indicator on the marcum.

I think that you couldn't go wrong buying either Marcum or Aqua View. Both are top of the line. I personally just like the AQ a tad more.

I just went thru this camera thing. I went with the aqua view scout xl mainly be cause I could not find a marcum. However at reeds I was told they had some leaking problems with the marcum. I wanted the pan feature also so I got the remote control tri-pod (extra $100) but it is very nice and I also like the larger screen and the fish camera. Have had numerous fish come right up to the perch camera and not spook. I am happy with my choice for a total of about $360.

Ya the larger screen would be much better, but as I posted there is not one model that has every option out there.

My first camera was as cheap (in price) as they get and I loved it. My seconded was the 560. I have had the chance to use others as well but the first one gave me a better idea of what I like and don't like.

Buying a camera will open a new door for you, but I would stay with in your means for expense as all cameras will change your experience on the water.

What ever your choice is I know you will love using a camara, that is as long s the lakes you fish are not real dirty !!!!

Good luck

Hey sonic, Do you have the one from Harbour Freight? I saw it in a catalog and thought the price was good but wasn't sure about how it would work or hold up. I know sometimes the tools in the catalog tend to be more on the disposable side.

Yes I do.

I have had it running and played with it a little bit in the cabin the day I bought it. The next day I went out to the lake and accidently hooked up that battery backwards on it would not turn on. When I got home I took it apart and found that a fuse soldered to the circit board was blown. I replaced the fuse and it works again. I have not got it into the water yet. Maybe tonight. It looks good for the money.
