Reel Maintenance

Can'tFishEnuf

Question

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I thought I'd start with a little reel question. I'm just wondering if people usually clean and lube their reels every year, every two years??? Do you know of any books or videos that help explain how to take a reel apart and perform this maintenance? I think I could do it with a little instruction. I've looked on various websites and bookstores and can't really find anything. The reel company websites don't seem to have anything either.

First of all, welcome to the forum! I am a muskie nut and own several baitcasting reels. I take them apart, clean and lube them once per year. I found directions on how to care of my Abu reels on this very web-site. I think if you search the equipment forum you should be able to find directions.......

Good luck in your search.

i normally leave that alone. but on some models i have run into , you have to take it off in order to get the side plate off to get at the gears.usually after you have the side plate off, you will see a opening in the back of it where you can put a couple of drops of lube on the bearing in there with out taking it apart.
