Somthing Fishy

Reservoir Dawg

OK, figure this one out.

I was on big Winni yesterday fishing for perch,I had a perch colored Go Devil with a minnow head on the treble hook. After not getting a bite for a while, I reeled up to check my bait.I couldn't belive my eyes instead of a minnow head, there was a whole minnow on the hook. The minnow looked to have been regurgitated and was a differnt kind of minnow then we were fishing with.

The only thing we could guess happend was, the head was nibbled off, and a perch with a minnow in his mouth pecked at my lure and hooked the minnow on the trebble hook.

We did catch a few fish that were gorging on minnows and had them sticking out of their mouths. confused.gif

I can't recall ever having that happen with a minnow, but in the summer, I was pulling in a northern and all of a sudden it wasn't fighting very hard and instead of a norther, there was a little crappie on the lure.

Had it go the other way to, a crappie on the line and just about to the boat and then danged near get the rod jerked out of your hand and pull up a northern.

I've casted a jig out with just a twisty tail on it and brought it back in with a minnow hooked right behind the head, that was weird, but this is weirder, buddy of mine was fishing down in the same spot where my hook was baited for me, reeled in a fish, about a 18 in northern, got it up to the bank, it made a run, there was never any slack in the line, when he got it back in it was a little dink channel cat.....darndest thing i've ever heard of.

I read an article about bigger northerns swimming right next to smaller ones that have food in their mouths, waiting for them to drop it or lose it so the bigger ones can snatch up an easy meal. Maybe different species of fish do this as well?
