Guest
I saw them too. They look like a gimick to me, but I dont see why they wouldnt work? Coloring a minnow seems a little more hassle than neccessary, but I would do it if it made fishing more productive on a bad day.I thought Robotic duck decoys were a gimmick too.. as silly and unrealistic as they look, they most definitely work. fiskyknut
Really a pen to color your minnows eh? I reckon kids could be occupied by that. I do, and know folks that color up their minnows by putting food coloring in the minnows water, Emerald Shiners take some color after a few days swimming in colored water. fiskyknut
CrappieJohn
I'm in Fisky's camp here. I have used the food color trick many times and the color, once deeper than just the slime, stays on for quite a while. Works too.
Northlander
I have scented markers that I use to color my plastics with at times. Really havent had any more success with the markered ones than plain ones. Coloring a live minnow with a marker is a waste of time to me. Now some food coloring in the minnow water may work. icehousebob
We experimented one year with coloring frozen smelt with food coloring to use as northern bait. Green and chartruse were the best by a large margin over the other colors, including natural. For late season northerns, green smelt outfished even live bait.
