Jiffy model 30 recoil broke

KrashR

Question

Has anyone ever had their recoil break on a model 30 Jiffy? The cord broke in mine and I started to fix it, wound it all up, but couldn’t get the cord through, so I let out the tension a few turns by hand and then let it go….. Now it doesn’t catch anymore, so I took it apart and it started to catch, but then when I got it all the way back together it didn’t again. Went to a local small engine place and they said the spring is broke and you can’t rebuild them and so I bought a new recoil for $44. I wouldn’t think Jiffy would make one you can disassemble if it wasn’t rebuildable. If a new spring only costs $5-10 I’d rather go that route. Looks like the one I bought can’t be taken apart. Anyone have any insight??

The tag end probley broke off one or the other ends of the spring, the recoil comes apart, look for a C clip on the small shaft that comes out the center of the recoil, remove this, you should be able to disassemble the recoil, take out the broken tag end, heat the end of the spring and bend a new end and reassemble the recoil. wink.gif Maybe the spring onhooked itself when the rope broke and the recoil reround.

What efgh spells out is correct.. you should be able to bend the end of the spring and re-coil everything... just be extremely carefull when you're doing this... the spring has a way of shooting out at you when you're putting everything back together...
