Tackle Box Dilemma

metrojoe

Question

I'm looking for a smaller tackle box wink.gif to hold all my panfish type tackle, jigs, plastics, corks, etc. I've got the double sided Plano box with the green lids, I want to say model 1128 not positive though, anyways I really like the size and over all layout. but I constantly have problems with small tackle shifting around and hanging up on the lid, just an over all mess to deal with at times.

What do you guys use or recommend to keep all that summer time panfish gear neat and organized?

I like tackle trays -- like the 3700 or 3600 size from Plano (lots of other manufacturers too) -- and soft side tackle bags. Very versatile, easy to find a place to stow a couple extra trays in the boat, even if you don't have a soft bag to put them in.

For your jigs, how about a flybox, either an aluminum one or plastic? Thorne Bros just started carrying a really cool little plastic flybox. They are perfect for storing the little panfish sized lures.

i bought a plano box ( with the green top) but has two levels for my panfishing stuff too, and have the same problem. i used to use a 3700, but my panfish tackle has grown so that i need more than one of them. my problem is/was that i usuall carry atleast one 3700 for bass too!(shore fishing) i have been wondering about a small tackle bag that would hold the panfish stuff; not be to clumsy, or two big when walking, and that i could still carry one 3700 and my two rods! if you find some thing that really fits your needs , let us know!

I had the same problem earlier this winter. I inherited alot of rapalas and jigs from my wifes grandfather and needed a way to keep them organized. What I do now is I have several hard plastic cases I keep everything in. Rapalas fill 2 of the biggest boxes, spoons in another, and jigs fill 2 more smaller boxes. I then can put all of these inside a duffel bag and just bring what I need that day. So in the winter I just bring my jig boxes. The duffel bag can hold all my boxes along with my rain gear and radio, some extra line and some random stuff for the summer. Makes it real easy to grab all the gear at once and go.

I also have a small soft sided case that holds 1 medium pastice case and 2 small ones. I use this for the BWCA when I don't want to pack all my gear. I just bring the best stuff. Works great.

I have this problem, too. Does anyone have a box thats compartments seal well enough to keep small hooks and jigs in their place?

I have had problems with the moveabled dividers that you can put in the pastic cases. They always want to rise up and let jigs and hooks slide underneath them. What I did was but a little hot glue one them to glue them in place. It seems to hold pretty well but you can easily enough break the seal to allow you to rearrange them if you need to.

I have seen some small jig boxes that have no moveable dividers and I like them better but they tend to be smaller and don't hold has much.

Thanks for the responses guys. It sounds like I'm not alone in this problem. I like the soft sided idea and I'm going to take a closer look at these. I've got one of the larger rack type tackle boxes that holds 3 storage compartments. I've got 6 of them and swap them out as I need them. This system works really well for my larger tackle. I did see a mini version of this tackle box the other day. I'm going to take a closer look at it next time I'm out.
