Question

I have a 1986 20 hp Merc that I am working on in school right I was goin through the carb I ran it in the tank and I had it a litlle to close to the edge of the tank and the prop hit the side of the tank now there chunks taken out of the prop and the prop shaft is bent my question is can this prop be fixed or do I have to buy a different one? if it can be fixed how would I go about doin it can pieces be welded on to it and be painted again or is that outta the question? I know the prop shaft needs to be replaced but my worries is the prop those are kinda expensive I really dont wanna have to replace that too. Any info on where i can get it fixed would be cool I am in the north metro if that helps. Thanks for the Help

I put this in the open water forum too that might be the wrong place i dunno see what happens

If the prop shaft is bent I would worry about replacing that, prop is cheap compared, very cheap.

If you cannot find anything used (usually around $ 50.00 ) try hsolist, you'll find many over there.

Now, propshaft to be straightened will need a complete lower unit teardown, that's big bucks at any shop. Don't try to straighten it with heat while on motor, you will melt the seals and probably damage some of the bearing carrier.
