LMITOUT
This news is about a week or more old, but I just read that the Vegas track is going from 12° to 20° banking and also a bit narrower. I think this is great news as there are way too many flat tracks on the schedule and the banking will make for more competitive racing and in turn better to watch. I think the rennovation of Homestead a few years back with progressive banking opened up the eyes of other track owners. Add in Charlotte and the schedule is getting better all the time. I for one cannot stand the big flat tracks and don't make a point to tune in as much as other tracks. Flat track Sunday equals time to go fishing for me. eyepatrol
You said it man! I agree, although on Sundays I do try to get out fishing early in the morning so I'm back in time to watch the race, no matter what track. Any word on when this change might occur? LMITOUT
They are going to bring in the heavy equipment right after the Cup race and it'll be completed for the truck race which is held on Sept 23rd.
JohnMickish
You guys also heard that they are going to redo Bristol. The article said they where going to resurface the track to try and give the top groove some bite for better 2 wide racing. Did not say anything if they where going to stay with concrete (I hope) or going back to asphalt.
lawdog
I was at a Vegas race and I also did the Richard Petty Driving Experience there. The track is just plain boring. Worst Cup race I've ever been too. I hate cookie cutter tracks. It was fun to drive though, but I would have rather done it at Richmond or something like that. Vegas was just easy to get to and cheaper. The track I think is also getting a makeover to the spectator area similar to the newer tracks like Kansas with the inside the track spectator area near the garages. Now Bristol I hadn't heard about. WHY CHANGE THE BEST TRACK ON THE CIRCUIT??? That by contrast, was THE BEST race I've ever been too by a HUGE margin. Nothing compares to a night in Thunder Valley!!!!!!!!!!!! NAPAFISH
Vegas boring, Cali is almost as bad. Why couldnt they have a dirt track maybe???I hate to admit LD I think Bristol is the cream. Bristol Baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LMITOUT
There have only been a few replies to this thread thusfar, but could this be the first topic that we all agree on? It just might be a record! Thank goodness they are changing Vegas. When I saw the headline my first thought is that they were just going to repave it. I was pleasantly surprised on reading further about the re-banking! Hopefully Cali is next.
JohnMickish
Here's a little cut and paste for you guysBristol to be resurfaced: Lowe's Motor Speedway and Talladega Superspeedeay are not the only tracks being resurfaced. Jeff Byrd, the President of Bristol Motor Speedway told MRN Radio's NASCAR Today that his track will get resurfaced after the Food City 500 in March. "It's kinda like screwing around with the formula for Coca-Cola. I don't know whether we're tinkering with a formula that doesn't need to be changed. We would like to reconfigure the track so the top lane so the top lane can carry more speed onto the straight-a-ways off of 2 and 4."(MRN Radio NASCAR Today)(1-25-2006)Dega', Bristol, Las Vegas and Lowes. This could be a good year. Now only if they would drop Daytona and Dega and give those dates to Richmond and Darlington.

JohnMickish
IMHO Daytona and Dega do not have a good of racing as a good short track. Sure, waiting for the "big one" to happen can have its suspense but I don't watch it for the crashes. Now you guys realize that when this "car of tomorrow" comes out and if it does what it's supposed to do by splitting up the packs and decreasing the areodynamic dependancies of the other cars, these two big plate tracks are going to be just like Vegas. Big and wide with cars all around the track and very little racing actually going on.Hey, we where all in ageement up to this point! Someone had to screw it up. JohnMickish
Got off track of the main topic. Sorry about that, I'm just bored.
LMITOUT
hahahaha. Yeah, at Daytona and Dega they are racing, but it's a different kind of racing. I like to watch the strategy of moving through the pack, picking partners to work with and having the cajones to pull out and try to pass. Not to mention being the meat in a 3-car sandwich is always fun to watch. Some of those guys are more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room of rocking chairs and it's funny to me....easy for me to say watching from my Lazy-Boy going 0mph! A lot of people don't understand the chess match going on while they are putting along at almost 200mph. A few years ago they had an aero package that was absolutely horrible. No passing at all. I think the wicker-bill on the top made for some good back and forth action, and I believe the Busch cars have some sort of similar package and they are great on the super speedways. The Cup went away from that and I think that was a mistake.
