Painting Aluminum Exterior

gunflint

Question

I'm in the final phases of my boat project for the winter. smile.gif I'm almost ready to paint the exterior hull. I have the etching primer, the primer, and the paint. My question is what's the proper way to prep the surface of the hull before etching? Bleach and water, TSP, any ideas? The hull has never been painted. Thanks.

You need to scuff the surface with a red scotch brite then clean the surface with a pre-clean type of solvent. You can get that where you got your paint. I painted buses for 12 years and they are alum. That process will fine. It sounds like you have the other products right. Good luck!!

I've heard that a new paint job guarantees more and bigger fish. I'm thinking my project for next winter will be to do a mural of a school of shad on the bottom.

Huh, kinda like birds that fly into the windows of new homes, the fish would hit the ice and you could just scoop them up grin.gifgrin.gif
