Any Recommendations For Giant Tuna Fishing From Mexico?

Want to plan a trip for Giant Tuna Fishing from Mexico, South of San Diego. Does anyone know if we can fly into Mexico and get a charter to get Tuna or Giant Tuna?

I know we can leave from San Diego for such giant Tunas, but it would cost like 10 days for the charter and about 5-7K per person. Too much time and money. I am thinking if I can get a charter from Mexico, I could save time and money.

Any advice or help appreciated.

I just got back from Cabo and had very good luck catching Yellowfin. They wern't real big, but that's the place to get a boat. We rented a 33' for the day for $500 for everything. BJC sportfishing was the name of the company we got our boat through. Hope this helps.

Did that include tackle bait, gas etc? What about tipping? Do they have open boat charters?

Everything but food and drink, it also included license. We tipped them at the end of the day due to the great fishing(caught my first Marlin). As far as openings, we booked it the afternoon before. There must be at least 500 charters there that you can book. The boat we were on was called the Tailchaser. The captain and the mate were both outstanding and worked very hard to find us fish.

Don't even think abou Cabo if big tuna are your quarry. I love Cabo, but it ain't tuna nirvana. Purto Valartta (never can remember how to spell it!) is THE place for BIG yellowfin, we're talking 200 to 300 punders more often than anypace I've ever heard of. There are a couple offshore islands, whose names I won't even attempt to spell, and only a select number of boats that head out there. So they're expensive, but if you want the big boys...Josh Temple on the "prime time" is the best known, if you check back issues of Sportfishing mag they did a cover feature on him and the PV tuna scene in (I think) August of 2005. There are other slightly less expensive outfits, but expect to pay 900 or more for a long day. Go to Mexfish.com and check out reports from late August/early Sept last year, it was just awesome action! The pic's alone in those reports will have you drooling! I tried like heck to get out of a LOTW weeklong trip and head down there spur of the moment, but couldn't pull it off. This is really the best big tuna action I've ever heard of, even better then the San Diego longrange boats. I haven't been following it long enough to be positive about the best season, but it seems like action heats up late summer and holds sporadically thru early winter. If you get serious about this, and decide to wait until next fall let me know, I way well be up for this one, even tho' it woud interrupt my quest for my first blue. BTW, they also see quite a few very good sized black marlin in that fishery as well.
