Buying a new Shack - 1060 ?

Jimmy Jay R

Question

Fishing with the Fam, wife and two kids. Also with the fellas. Looks like the 1060 has lots of room and a solid base so poles, kids smirk.gif, etc. wont be falling into the holes. Anybody use one of these or have a reason i shouldn't? The 6800 is too much of a beast for me and the 5600 looks small. I know the 1060's are a bit slow to put up. A Gander rep said Clam is redesigning it to make it easier to put up and down, thats why they didnt sell em this year. Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated !

Think about 2 Yukons or Guide's instead...

This way if it's only you or you and a buddy you have a smaller shack (only need one). If it's the whole family then you have 2 shacks that can be used separate or put together with a "trap-link" so you have 1 big shack.

$399 each on closeout.

That's what I did anyway - worked for me. Good Luck!

Are you refering to the clam sleeper with heavy duty rubber floor yes those were a beast the 6800 is pretty light and can be loaded with 1 person and with 2 people it's no problem at all using the handles. Plus the 6800 weighs less then the 1060.

Good Luck...my neighbor has a mint 6800 for sale if you would like to come over and check it out let me know.

I bought a 1060 this year and love it. It does not drag as easy as a sled, but the floor is more "user friendly". The main reason I bought one was because it fit in my SUV and unlike the other cabins it has open ice on both sides of the floor, so I can use it to spear. I am very happy with mine. It is a little harder to set up than a flip over, but I can do it alone in less than five minutes.

thanks for the insight randallt, i may go to Cabelas and see what they got. I know they had em 4 450 earlier this year. Buying two otters is a tad to expensive for me and i dont have enough room. The 6800 may be a option too but i like how small the 1060 is.

I didn't sell it. I just bought mine this year from Gander in Mankato. A floor model for $320, it was the only one they had in there system. Cabelas in Rogers is selling them new for $449. They had two in the "Bargain Cave" for $399. The one I set up had a couple of bent poles and a couple very small holes. They would not negotiate on them so I left.

Anyone else been disappointed with that store? Owattona is always dealing big time when I stop in. Rogers on the other hand won't. Anyone else have this experience there or am I just talking to the wrong people?

I bought a 1060 at Cabela's in EGF before Christmas with the $100 off with a $500 purchase on the Club card so it ended up being $349. I fished in a friend of mines last winter and loved it. It takes a little more to set up but more room and easier to drill holes with the open ends. My brother in-law bought a 6800 the same time and when we went fishing together with his boys, they wished they bought the 1060. I like the fact that it folds up small enough to fit in the F-150 Supercrew 5.5' bed with the tailgate up. It fishes 3 people very comfortably.

I think he meant really 439? for the 6800 at Gander...according to the wife.... they were actually 449, i stopped in there today at the forest lake store. Fish Mgr said one more discount before there all gone.

IB Jigged - thanks for the input i like to here that about people who actually used it. I myself went to the Rogers Cabelas and almost snagged the Bargain Cave 1060, i set it up too and didnt like the bends in the poles, small world.

Maybe Rogers will blowout there 1060's for 399 or something. They had em all year at 449 everyone else was 499. i just bought a LM-8 and a pro pack...i may be sleeping in the 1060 for good if i come home with that smile.gif
