Broken Transducer Mount

Leaky

Question

This weekend my tranducer mount snapped, leaving the transducer hanging by it's cord. It's a clean break on the hard plastic. Any thought as to what would be the best product to "glue" it back together.

The spot where it snapped is part of the transducer itsself, so if that doesn't work I would need to buy a new transducer. Help?

I have worked as an engineer several years with plastic, I would need a little more information on what type of plastic (i.e Polypropolyene, HIPS, PE, etc..) With knowing the type of plastic it is still going to be a 50/50 longshot if the glue will hold up to the abuse, plus you will probably need to special order it from a company like 3M, which could turn out to be spendy. I think for all the hassle and then not even knowing if it is going to work I would probably buy a new mount and transducer.
If you do want to try to get it fixed I will be more than happy to help you out to find the "correct" glue, will need more information!

I had the same problem and went to the hardware store and bought 2 part Devcon epoxy for plastic. It has to be the epoxy formulated for plastic to work. It's held on for over a year now and sure beats the price of a new transducer, and a lot less work too. Can't say how long it will hold up, only time will tell. It wouldn't hurd if the geometry of the piece would allow you to fit an aluminum sheet metal bracket to reinforce the repair.

Thanks guys. I have no idea what kind of plastic it is, so I'll give the epoxy a whirl. It's on my pontoon, which doesn't get banged around too much. It's worth a try.

I put the epoxy on and it held for the trailer ride from the Cities to Mille Lacs, and didn't come off over the weekend. I couldn't get a clamp on it, so I put the epoxy on and duct taped it till I got up North. Pulled the tape off. So far, so good.
