Ski's on a crankdown fish house?

mnhunter2

Question

Just got back from wauby and had a great time with the first perm fishouse I have built, everything worked fine but had a little trouble pulling a 6.5 x14 with my four wheeler with chains we had to hook 2 wheelers together with a chain to pull it through the small drifts that had a crust on them, the snow was only 6" deep but it seemed to stop the house. I thought I read about someone who had built a set of ski's and I was wondering if they would help?

I've seen people make these out of plain rims, without the tire, and weld angle iron support/cross braces onto the rim to a large ski. A snowmobile ski might work, but it would be best to find something larger...or make a ski out of steel if that is possible. Simply bolt it on to switch when you get to the lake. I've thought of doing this project myself...

Here on Bago we make skis out of 2x6s about 28" to 30" long cut ends on 45s then take a couple 8"to10" pieces of 2x6 and make a retangle box, cover bottom with thin plyood then with alum or plastic, then sit under wheel find where the front of the tire sits then take another 2x6and fit in front of tire to keep tight and we pull them right on top of the snow with sleds or quads
