Hyfax Runners - Tricks to Install

Install them before you attach the shelter. Also I started in the front and only drilled holes as I was working back to stay centered. I also used a smaller drill bit to help keep out water. I used one that was close to the size of the bolt and then it was a kind of self taping screw. It helps to have two cordless drills and a buddy to help. Beer optional. grin.gif

When I bought mine from Fisher Ed, he said to start up front and drill the first hole and attach the screw. Then you have the rest of the strip to use as leverage to bend it around the front curve. Get the next screw attached and you are on easy street. What worked great for me was to have the sled flipped upside down with my buddy on the inside with a ratchet. I would drill the hole and stick the screw through, he would wrench it down tight.

I must say, these hyfax kits are the best investment a guy can make for keeping your sled bottom from wearing.

P.S. It will take a few beers to get it done also.

A second set of hands is definitely a bonus if you can get them. I did mine by myself and it was somewhat tedious, drilling and flipping and reaching underneath to put on the washers and nuts. The middle two were the worst as it's a long stretch on a Magnum! As mentioned above, do it before you attach the canvas. What also took me longer was that most of the holes that were drilled left plastic burrs around the hole which wouldn't let the washer and nut grab any threads on the short screw. Almost every hole had to be trimmed so that the washer would fit flush against the sled to allow the nut to thread.

I also noticed that in my instructions it said that there was supposed to be a washer on the hyfax side also, but that turned out to be incorrect.

Set your sled upside down on some sawhorses or 4 five gallon pails, heat the hyfax with a handheld probane torch and it will go on slick. If your confidant with your hands and tools you should have it done in less than two hours.
