Wildview Digital 2.0

Recommended Posts

I bought this trail camera from Cabelas with some Visa gift certificates from work I got for Christmas. For $99 ($75 with a $25 off mailer coupon), I am impressed - so far. I set it out last night and dumped a ice cream bucket of corn/deer feed in front and got these photos. They are 1.3, or the low res setting. I haven't tried the high res setting at 2 megapixels yet.

Cabelas did a little bit of false advertising on the web, claiming "The 16MB integrated memory holds 20 high-resolution images, 30 pictures at the 1.3 megapixel setting." Instead, according to the box, and this first round of pictures, it takes 12 low res and 8 high res. In other words, I have to buy a memory card, which will run about $20 to take a decent amount of pictures with the camera.

It can also be set up to take short video clips. Will be interested to see what those turn out like.

All in all, a decent camera for the price so far. Will see how it holds up and what it's like on the batteries.

I bought the exact same thing from my Christmas money also, except at Gander. They never told me about the $25 off coupon- I'll have to look into that!

I put mine out in the woods where I hunt and had 1 picture in 1 night, but unfortunately it was sluggish and took the picture of the deer from the neck back, so I don't know if it was a buck or doe :< But, I really like the camera, I have it on high res, and bought a 128K memory card (I can also use the card for my dig. camera) for $17 at Walmart.

How do you like the downloading software? I use my software from my Camera, and haven't tried the Wildview program yet, not sure if I want 2 programs on the computer that do the same job. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Hey. The coupon was a Cabelas coupon I got in the mail - spend $100, take $25 off. I haven't used the software because I have Windows XP. The manual said to just plug the usb cable into the computer from the camera with XP and it works slick. I put some corn/feed out in front because I've heard digitals are sluggish in general. Or rather the reaction time is slower than with 35m cameras. I find this true with my other digital camera that isn't a scouting camera. Not putting much food out - just a little at a time to get them to stop. And will switch over to a salt block well before hunting season for obvious legal reasons.

I'd agree with BLB. I like my camera so far but went with it because I got a "deal" on it and knew that with Cabelas, they let you send back any "flops." I did this with my 35 mm StealthCam I bought a few years ago. After a couple of weeks of blank pictures and lots of batteries, I sent that model back.

On a plus note, I watched the Wildview go off in the woods behind our house like the 4th of July last night. Resolved myself to let it go until weekend before I download them. Hopefully its not a colony of racoons feasting on the feed I scattered about. : ) But at least I'm not wasting any film if it is.

Well, I finally got some results with the Wildview. It took a shot of a nice deer, but only got the neck back, but then I got a nice 10 pointer the other day. I have no idea how to post a picture here, but if someone else wants to see it or post it, I can email it to them.

Cool to see that Wildview results. I have been looking at the same one. I tried the Stealthcam 35 mm and after two tries with different cameras got my money back. Also has anyone tried the Moultrie version of the 2.0 MP digital. I have also looked at that one too and am wondering how they work.

Heres a lil tip for the newbie puting out a trail cam.

Look at fasternu's pic.See how the cams set looking more down the trail.Thats the correct way to set up a cam thats slow at taking the pic.9 outa 10 times the pic he has will all be the same.Just catching the deer as the flash goes off the deer cocks his head back then click goes the pic

Most people put the cams looking across the trail.Wrong wrong wrong you will miss most of the deer or just catch the back end

All trail cams work you just have to set it the way it will catch the animal.I have several different brands some real bad ones a couple good ones that are high dollar. All work fine you just need to experment a lil

FL Sniper. I like my Wildview so far - especially for the price. I've only had it out a few times since I originally posted the pics in this post. I didn't want to leave it out in the cold as it was eating a set of batteries every week or so. I hear digitals are notorious for that in cold weather.

I spread out some corn and horse feed - about a five gallon bucket or so every week to get them to stop for a couple of photos. But I agree with the previous poster that you should set the camera up to point into a trail to get more and better pictures. The delay on this camera and most digital cameras is at least a few seconds which can leave you with photos of nothing if the deer are on the move past your camera. All in all it gets a thumbs up from me. Good camera. Nice price. Sure there are much better ones out there but does the job for me.

i have the wildview 2 digital camera and love it. i bought the battery pack for it. its made by stealth, just make sure its a 6volt or 12volt setup if you get it.the guys at cabalas told me it would work and does or i could bring it back. its a glorified vexilar battery with a weather proof box and built in charger and power cable that goes to the camera. its arelly fun toy.

Glad to hear people are pleased with the Wildview. I put the camera out in the woods yesterday.

I picked up some energizer rechargeable batteries so hopefully they work out well. I have had good luck using them in our family digitel camera.

Thanks for the info.
