Just purchased Marcum LX3-TC

I just purchased a new LX3-TC for $375 and am wondering what the learning curve is. I took it out last night and it seemed like I had to play with the sensitivity alot. It seemed like it kept losing my bait. I was looking for panfish and had a small jig with a minnowhead which seemed to slowly disappear off the radar. It seemed I had to have the sensitivity up high (above 4) inless than 10ft of water.

I am realatively inexperienced at Ice fishing and this is my first flasher purchase. Please let me know if I'm doing something wrong or was my jig just to tiny. I really want to learn to catch fish.

Thanks, Josh

If you were fishing over a spring or in current, your bait is being "washed" out of the cone. I have the lx3tc and can assure you that I have not had the gain up past 2 in twentyfour feet of water fishing a small jig and waxie....and there was a gentle current there. No problemo for me.

If you are in the 20 foot mode, try the 40 and see what happens.

scroll down and check out the thread "marcum visits vexilar (interference)" It seems I am having the same problem you are. If you fish next to other units you may have to turn the gain up even more.

Other things that seem to help. Center the ducer in teh middle of your ice hole and raise it higher than the bottom of the ice. It helps a little. But you may need warranty work. frown.gif

TNFL, you have an LX3 last years model. Some units did have transducer issues.

I just called MarCum and they have no known transducer issues with this years LX3tc - not one call to date on them with thousands sold.

Somethingfishy, please go to http://marcumtech.com and let them know what your problem is. After you do that please let us know here what the result is.

These machines are absolutely awesome. I used my new LX-3tc over the weekend at Red Lake and Lake of the Woods and had a blast. The zoom feature is so great, as in 30ft. of water you can take the zoom down the water column to see those bottom hugging fish which appear in living color and like they are right in front of you, with the split screen. This feature alone sold me on the Marcum over the Vexilar which I have had for the past ten years. It was my time to make the switch and am very glad I did. I was also impressed with my battery lasting 18 hours of straight run time, before I had to switch to another battery. As for the fishing, Red Lake was dead, two crappies in 20 hours, lots of those throw back walleyes, but Lake of the Woods, ROCKED.

I agree with one of the last posts. My brother and I both bought units late last year and after only two times out I experienced the same problem as did my brother. We called Marcum and they sent us two "new" transducers and ours now work well. I highlited "new" as mine appeared to be a "refurbished one". When they work like they are supposed to they are awesome. Course I keep my Vexilar FL 18 handy just in case the trouble shows again.

How do you know if you have one of the messed up transducers? I bought my lx3 this year from a place recommended on here, then i sent it in for the upgrade...is there something like serial number or whatever that would tell me if mine was in the batch of bad transducers?

The problem transducers are connected to last years model LX3.

Dakota Iceman if you bought last years model LX3 and you have to turn your gain to the 4 and above range I would go to http://marcumtech.com and get the problem fixed.

This years model LX3tc has no known problems that I'm aware of to date.
