New Ice well do they work how well

I used mine for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Put 3 sunnies in it for about 3 hours. They were all on top the whole time. When it was time to let them go, they perked back and swam away as if nothing happened. So as far as a first test, the Ice Well seemed to work as promised.

I've used mine all season when keeping fish for dinner was on the slate. It is great not having to thaw the fish to fillet them. One trip I came up a few short of a meal's worth and when those kept were returned to the water they acted as though they had just gotten off the hook.

ditto to everyone else. I used mine and they laid on top the whole time and I thought they were dead, but when released, they perked right up and sway away!! one crappie must have liked it in there because he actually came back out of the hole when I released him!!

I haven't kept a fish all winter so far, but I'm usually at Catch and release guy. When I started catching some sunnies of size, I thought that maybe I'd make a meal out of them if I got into some more. Well, I didn't, so I threw 3 of them back. There's a not a lot of meat on these guys and I feel that 5 fish makes a pretty good snack.

Hopefully I'll catch those 3 again, along with a couple of their buddies. It's been a while since I've treated myself to a fish dinner shocked.gif

Jimmy sure hope that "Ice well" you spent all yer money on works, cuz I'm gonna stick so many fish in it you wont be able to pull it up through the hole. Oh and one more thing hope you gotta an extra hole drilled to stick it in smirk.gif

Giant: That's correct, I didn't catch enough for a meal for my family. so rather than "ice" them and have to bring them home and clean only a couple, I'd rather release them and get 'em again when they are more grown up!!

I have seen a few of the Crappies and Bluegills act like they are disorientated or something and they will stay towards the top of the Ice-Well. Almost all of the Walleyes and Perch stay towards the bottom of the bag. Remember to put the Ice-Well all the way down to the waterline. It floats! This way it stay open in the hole and is easy to toss your fish in. Sometimes I put a big Walleye in the Ice-Well for a few minutes so that I can get my camera stuff ready for a photo and then take the fish out - take a quick photo - and release it before the elements take it's toll and the fish. IF you want to speed up the process of getting the Ice-Well into the hole quicker just use your dipper and push it down the hole quicker.

Don't forget that this is an excellent live well for the summer as well. I even used it while wearing chest waders in the fall casting crankbaits. I just tied it off to the chest waders and would toss a Walleye in and then velcro the top closed. You can also use them oof a dock, or with small boats without a livewell. I bring it with to Canada on our fly in trips! Have fun, Bruce Mosher
