Which GPS unit

Mugsaway

Question

Looking to buy a handheld GPS unit and was looking for some input from others. Which brand do you have. Pro’s and Con’s of your unit. Any you would recommend?
I am looking for a mapping unit. I will primarily use it for hunting and fishing-marking deer stands, fishing spots, trying not to get lost in the woods, etc…
Any info would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

There's a lot of info on this topic on the site. Do a 'search' above of this topic (Equipment-Expert Info) for 'GPS', and you will get about three pages worth of threads that will help you out.

One comment...check into the software that you want/are interested in first, then buy the GPS unit that is most compatible with the software you want to use.

Garmmin makes a very user friendly product that is very robust. They can take a lickin and keep on _ _ _ _ _, well you know. With Garmin the question is how much do you want to spend. Check them out on the web. Then shop around. I have had 2 Garmins so far. I just had to get a bigger and better one the 2nd time. No problems with either and by the way, Garmin does answer questions posted on their web site. I am speaking from experience. Good Luck!

I have the Garmin GPS III+ and really like it. It's super easy to use, you can download detailed maps and it shows you a ton of information.
I would even loan it to you for a weekend so you can try it out if you'd like.

I have both the Garmin Pilot III, Garmin 12XL and the Lowrance Infinity. The Garmins are by far a more solid, dependable, longer lasting, better built unit. But, The lowrance is cheaper and I could actually get maps for the lakes I fish on.
