Does anyone hunt bear in WI. I'm moving to WI and would like to hunt them next season, but I have some questions about tags and places to go etc.. Hopefully someone on this site will be able to help me

You need to apply for the tags and it may take up to six years to get one depending on what zone you choose. I should get my tag this year after appling for pref. points for the last 6 yrs.

I'm slowly starting to figure out how it all works. I've already applied to start getting some points built up. When someone is lucky enough to get a tag do most people go with an outftter or just try their luck on public land?? It seems like all the guides are out of the A and A1 areas

Tons of public land up nort to hunt bears, plenty of room for all. The only glitch could be setting up in an area that hound hunters hit - even then it still can work for you. I would check some areas out well before you get to that 6 pref point status. Spend some time in the area during bear season to get an idea of whats going on. If you want to hunt with hounds, you can usually do that for free - many guys with hounds are always looking for someone with a tag so they can get out and hunt. I can give you some good leads if you want. Unfortunately, you have plenty of time to figure it all out.
