Nestor Falls

Recommended Posts

Al,

Looks like there aren't many people on the forum that have been fishing in Nestor Falls this Winter. I will be going up this Friday and fishing Crow and LOW on Saturday, Sunday and part of Monday. I will post when we get back. Hope this helps.

I was out on LOTW the last 2 days, the crappies were biting slow but constant. I got my limit. The ice on LOTW is good with 8 inches in Stevens Bay. Crow Lake ice isnt as good but the trout fishing was great. Very little snow on the ice makes it great for travel.

WB,

Are you staying at Muskie Bay? If so, let me know. We will have to introduce ourselves. Do you know the way to Rowan by sled? I fish it during the Spring right at ice out and it is a great lake.

WB,

Muskie Bay is a family run resort, so don't wait for them to reply to your request on ice info. They may not even look at the postings for a few days. I will post a request for Crow Lake ice conditions as I am also curious.

Just came back from the best trip of my life. We were North of Nester and South of Souix Narrows. Some slushy spots, the bays mostly had 10-11" of ice. Trout fishing on Sunday was different in Whitefish bay, 4-5" ice (clean)to our surprise...a little scary but it was WELL worth it. Crappies were going good in 40 FOW, a couple nice walters on the reefs (1- 27"), and a 33.5" laker on Sunday. Couldn't of asked for a nicer long weekend! Oh yah, lots of grey wolves in the area shocked.gif

Hello from Muskie Bay in Nestor Falls, Crow Lake has 5" of ice. The snow cover is approximently 3 inches, with some slush pockets but they are shallow and easily avoidable. We have had a few people go to Rowan and did great. The Cameron portage is rough as usual but go slow and it shouldnt be a problem. It seems like all the lakes off the end of Crow, and including Crow are producing trout right now. For more recent updates check out www.muskiebayresort.com

Thanks, good luck,

Robin

Al and everyone else,

I just returned from a weekend at Muskie Bay on Crow Lake tonight. The ice on Crow Lake and Rowan Lake was around six inches. Snow depth was an average of four inches or so. We hit an occasional slush spot but all of then were no more that 20' to 30' across so they posed no real problem for travel.I was told by some other fishermen to stay out of tight choke points between islands as there could be some thin ice in those spots. I took them on their word and stayed away. We did good on Lakers on both Crow and Rowan.

LOW had ten inches of ice or so and also some slush. We fished Stevens' Bay for Crappies so we did not travel very far on LOW. Crappie fishing was fair for numbers of fish and good for average size. It was near zero up there as we packed up this morning so the ice should be improving. Good luck, be careful and have fun.

Jacob-

Shoot me an email if you have the chance. [email protected] I'm always on the lookout for new areas to catch walleyes and we might try that out one afternoon after trouting around on Whitefish this weekend. I'd like to get some more general details (Not your exact hotspots) before venturing into new territory. Thanks, Mad Mulcher.

I'm headed up to that exact area you just fished on thursday. We've been going there for years for lake trout on whitefish bay. We hit it hard all day long and have never taken the time to fish for crappie or walleye. It's usually well below zero this time of year so we're ready to head in by evening time.

Looks like it will be rather pleasant temp wise this week, so we may have to try for crappie or walleye one day/night. It sounds like you were catching your crappie and walleye in snake bay. Any info on what time you had your best luck and what bait(s) worked best for you would be much appreciated.

We will be spending the majority of our efforts for trout, but it would be a nice change of pace to setup for walleye/crappie some evening.

You can also email me at [email protected] if you like.

I'd be happy to share any info on lake trout if you'd like.
