Jiffy Stealth STX

Minnow,

I bought a Jiffy 3hp stealth last year and have mixed feelings about it. I have had problems with factory carb assembly, cold weather starting and unit weight. It's a good auger, but for the money if I had to do it all over again, I'd go with a Nils Master.

I have a 3HP 10" stealth that is on it's 3 season and I have had not one speck of trouble. The past two weekends when is has been sub zero it starts on the first pull almost all the time if it doesn't I hit the primer somemore and it will fire on the second pull. I know that there are a few people that have problems with them. However with that said if Nils Master made a 10" I would probably be buying one of those. I like my 10" holes.

I'm on my 3rd season wih 2 hp stealth 8". Runs perfectly. If I had to name an issue it would be the center chipper blades can clog with ice when drilling lots of holes in a row and it will not drill until you clear them. Only happened on one trip though. I would buy another today.

If you are looking for a 8" auger go with the 2hp 8" STX from Jiffy. 2hp engines have more than enough power for a 8" drill assembly. I have been using Jiffy 2hp 8" augers for years. Dependability and Durability.

With the new STX you will get a three warranty on the blades and two years on the gear box. What other auger has that type of warranty? Not having to replace blades and being able to sharpen them yourself this will save you $$$$$ ove the years.

I have had mine for a year and it has been great. -20 degree starts were no problem just takes a little bit to get warmed up but once it is warmed up be ready to rock and roll. Also be careful when you lay it down got some snow in my carburetor last year but got it cleaned out no problem. One thing check out cabelas.com and look for the nylon auger hauler. Keeps the auger clean from snow and dirt and protects your vehicle from any gas spills. Nice little insurance policy if I do say so myself.

Merry Christmas

I just bought the 8" STX infact it's still in the box. It has the same motor as the Strikemaster's (so I'm told). It must come down to the maintenance and how you take care of it. My question to the forum is this . . . Are there some intricate things you are doing to keep these running well?

My old auger was a Strikemaster Mag (49CC). Every other year I had to put a carb kit in it at $60 clams a shot! Thats why I switched to a Jiffy.

minnowhead-

Back to your original question. Yes, a Jiffy will throw ice chips all over the place. But that is not a Jiffy flaw, that is a flaw of chipper style blades in general.

Shaver blades don't throw chips, they just leave a nice little pile of ice around your hole. Look to Stikemaster, Nilsmaster, or I believe a few Eskimo models for shaver style blades.

PS- Single Chipper Blade? No! Cuts slower and with more effort from the user. Not worth the $40 savings in my opinion.
