Plastic fuel tank repair

Hi

I've got a '91 Artic Cat Lynx w/ a plastic fuel tank. Somehow, the tank developed a crack between the filler neck and tank body.

We checked the local snowmobile salvage yard, but nothing they have will fit my sled. A new tank would cost $200, and

thats a bit steep for a sled that might be worth $400-500.

Is there any type of glue / epoxy I could use? Can plastic

be "welded"?

Newer viecals have plastic radiators, when they develop a leak radiator repair shops weld them, I would check with the closes shop to see if they can help you out.

I have used J B weld, sand or grind the area so J B weld has something to stick to, mine has lasted 3 years and counting.

Does the JB Weld stand up to the effects of gas? Is there

a specific type of JB Weld?

I ask, because I tryed using JB Weld on my lawn mowers

tank, and the gas went right thru the JB.

I dont remember the exact name of the product,but my 4-wheeler had a small hole on the top. I bought this 2 part epoxy ,mixed it up and placed it in the hole-end of the problem.

Maybe try this stuff http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/epoxygas.htm . IIRC NAPA and PepBoys also have epoxy for repairing plastic gas tnaks.
