X-15 GPS Trouble

JBK

Question

I just added GPS to my X-15MT Every time I turn it on I get "GPS module not responding" message.I've been trying all week-end to initialize this unit with no luck. Checked my connection, set local time menu still no luck. Is it possible I just got a bad module? Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks guys.

Sorry I can't help you, but if you call the store that you purchased the unit from they might be able to. I had a question installing my 18c and the guys at Thorne bros new exactly what I was talking about and helped me out over the phone. They were great

Good Luck!!

Had the same message when I hooked up my LMS-330C saying the "Module not responding".
The reason for the message was the fact the module was not hooked up to power!
The manual says not to hook it up and the extra red piece of paper they send you says to hook up power to the module. Believe me hook up the power to your module and it will work!

Here is what I wrote on another HSOforum:

As far as hooking up the power to this unit according to the manual which is most confusing at best, you have to hook up the NMEA 2000 power cable to +12 and ground.
After the first night of fustration by going by the manual and having the unit giving me a "Gps module not responding" warning which is your antenna, means the NMEA power cable isn't hooked up.
So I called Lowrance help, and they told me that the red piece of paper that comes with the instructions were included to inform you to hook up the NMEA 2000 power cable.
So yesterday when I got in the boat and put the (NMEA 2000 power cable) red wire to +12V and the black wire and bare shield wire to ground it worked!
Just a heads up to let you know so you don't go thru the frustration I had!

I had the same problem. It is possible you do not have the right GPS module with the right unit. You will have to download the updated software from Lowrance's HSOforum onto your MMC card and then put in the X-15 and it will program itself automatically. Their service is great and they will walk you through it.

I'm positve this is your problem if the unit is an early model. For some reason they swithed the programs.
