Bigbartguy
Just received my '3-color Upgraded' LX-3 back from Marcum. Very fast turn around. Now if I could just find a lake to try it out in.....tried it in the laundry tub but didnt mark any fish. Was able to see a bit of the new color scheme though. Very bright!! Cant wait to get it out on the hard water.
schweady
At least 3 of us in Perham got ours back today, only 11 days after the program was announced. They must have done up a bunch of em before hauling them all over togerther to UPS. Fired mine up and the 3 colors really showed up sweet - bright and crisp. uh, make that "At least 4 of us in Perham..." Marcum is unmatched in their customer service! Bigbartguy
Schweady- can I ask how you got to see the colors?did you have to put the transducer in some water or no?I could only see 1 color til I put in the laundry tub
Paul Waldowski
BBG,On the new LX-3tc if you hold in the zoom button while you turn it on the unit will go into simulation and show you all of the colors. I would presume after the upgrade that it would be the same with your unit.
schweady
Paul: I had heard that too, but that didn't do it on mine... just started up zoomed. Are you sure that's not just on the LX-5? BBGuy: I had to turn the gain way up, turned to the 80 ft scale, and lightly rubbed the ducer on my hand a bit. Don't run it too long out of water, I guess it's not good for it, I just wanted to check out the colors... Hopefully, this weekend I can make it show some walleye. katoguy
schweady, where did you hear that it is not good to run a transducer out of water?I think most transducers that are attached to a bowmount trolling motor is run out of the water a lot. I turn the fish finder power on in the morning and don't turn it off until I load the boat. This includes stowing and deploying the trolling motor up to a couple dozen times with the transducer out of the water.First time I heard of this on any model, so just curious. schweady
Anybody else who's gotten their upgraded LX-3 back care to try this and see if they get a demo mode? I'm guessing it's not part of the upgrade. No big deal.I will take another opportunity to talk up Marcum's service department. I had never heard of them until last year at this time. Since then I've contacted their service department on 3 occasions, and every time they have gone WAY above expectations in taking care of me. heartattack22
What does this upgrade do to the LX-3? I have one and like it alot. Was there any cost to have them do it? THanks
BIG DS
It changes the led's from red orange and yellow to red, a vivid yellow, and a vivid green. Marcum came out with the "true color" display this year on the LX-3 and the LX-5. The demo mode is only on the new units. It is not part of the upgrade. If you are interested on getting the upgrade done, call Marcum and they will give you a reference number that needs to be sent in with the power head to Marcum Technologies along with a check for $49.00. If you look at your paper work from when you purchased the unit, there is a address for the Brainerd locatioin, that is where it will need to be shipped. It will be returned in 10-14 business days. Big Pine Walleye
I couldn't get mine to start up in demo mode either! I am impressed with how bright the colors are. I am hoping that in the water it will be even more impressive--that means the fish are cooperating!!Hats off to Marcum and their staff--they are the friendliest people that I have ever worked with! schweady
Quote: schweady, where did you hear that it is not good to run a transducer out of water? Been searching a while, but finally found it in a post in a thread from mid-October named Marcum LX-3??? by none other than Deitz Dittrich, FishingMN Pro Staff Coordinator. On that thread he said: Quote: I have also been told its really not great on any tranceducer to run them out of water very long. Now, maybe Deitz can explain where HE heard it.
